Cognitive Science Major Over the past two decades, the field of cognitive science has enjoyed
a remarkable period of growth and development. This surge in the
field's advancement can be measured by rapid increases in the number
of (a) scholarly publications in cognitive science; (b) scholars
who call themselves cognitive scientists; and (c) new academic programs,
departments, and majors carrying the specific label of "cognitive
science" at both doctoral and liberal arts institutions. The
field of cognitive science spans the academic terrain of neuroscience,
psychology, computer science, philosophy, anthropology, and linguistics.
The Cognitive Science major at the University of Richmond takes
effect beginning in the Fall of 2006. Course requirements Choice of two additional "foundation" courses outside
of psychology from the following (6-8 hours): One advanced senior level course in Psychology, Philosophy, Biology,
or Computer Science from among the following (3-4 hours): The requirements listed above constitute 29-32 hours, depending
on the courses chosen. The remainder of the 38-hour requirement
for the major may be fulfilled with electives from the following
list. |
